My friend Kendra (who doesn't have a blog and should) got on Facebook recently and raved and raved about it. She's been able to get in contact with a bunch of old high school friends and renew old friendships. For her that's a good thing...I'm not sure I want to renew any old high school friendships (other then the ones that I already have...and yes, Kim I so need to email you!).
But I was curious.....
So I got on....
It's so much fun. I can't even tell you what's fun about it, there's some sort of voyeuristic pleasure to type in names from the past and see those people pop up. You can only see their profiles if you become 'friends' with them and I don't particularly want to do that. So it is a bummer that my voyeuristic wants can't be met with more information. You can, however, see their friend lists. What's interesting is that the popular people are still friends with the other popular people. (I wasn't popular or unpopular -- I had a solid group of friends and got along with everyone else, just didn't go to the parties, or date or such....looking back, I think that's an enviable way to survive high school).
Last night, after a very satisfying date night (get your mind out of the gutter...it was great, because after the typical movie and dinner time, we parked the car watched the lightening storm and TALKED), Jason and I created a facebook page for him and spent a good couple hours looking for his old high school friends. Yeah, yeah, we need a life...but that's going to have to wait until our kiddos are out on their own.
I think that it's one of those things that will be a lot of fun at first, but will fade, then when people contact you, you'll have a couple days of more obsessive interest. But it will never replace blogging.

Talking? Well...if that's what we're calling it THIS week!
You do kow that Jason is married right? Do you think we should tell his wife?
I need to try that out. Finding old friends' blogs has been SO much fun, but there are so many more people I'd love to stalk!
I have to admit, I'm a little addicted to Facebook as well. I especially love the Wordscraper (scrabulous) game. Find me in there if you like.
I am on there too...I wouldn't call myself addicted b/c I definately prefer blogging but I do enjoy it.
martha...seriously...talking...hahaha
ganelle...if you get on, let me know
vanessa...i tried to get on scrabulous and the notes on the wall said that it was closed? Is it a scrabble game? I love scrabble...jason and i even play it on his palm on date nights...
teresa...if you want you can look me up under tracey taylor zimmer
I think I may be the biggest facebook fan. I will add you if I can find you...keep an eye out for me...I have the same pic that is on my blog...
It's amazing how many old school friends you can find...
xoxo
Oh and Teresa, if you want you can add me as well. It's my first and last name. I think you have this on my e-mail..I will try and find you as well.
xoxoxo
Take 3...I cannie find anyone...I am not sure what pictures you all have on...
Call me Blonde...AGAIN !LMAO
scott your face book came up when i merged my email...i think we emailed once or something...i almost invited you as a friend but i didn't want to be presumptious...
I think right now i can only be addicted to blogging and facebook...if i got onto myspace i might actually never get off my computer..LOL...
I've received e-mails from two old friends notifying me that they have facebook accounts and are inviting me to create an account so that we can be "friends" on there too. But, I'm just reluctant to get "exposed" on such a widely viewed and varied participant's site. I've already had contacts from some wierdo's occasionally just by having a blog!
I would be interested to hear if you get any of that.
Sandra...I think Martha (first commenter and neighbor of mine) got a request from someone she didn't know and she declined him. When you get on to look around you can't see anyone's profiles...unelss you are friends.
and you can limit the information you put in to just your name.
I entered my highschool to see if anyone wanted to find me (which is doubtful)
I really think it's more of a locator place...we just found a highschool friend of jason's who just happens to be in town for buisness this week so we're meeting her for dinner...
I have heard so much about Facebook and am tempted... but... have hesitated. I get the impression it's a much more mature "playground" than Myspace. Is that true?
I'd be afraid no one would be looking for me. I was shy and introverted in high school. Like you, I had a solid group of friends, but was not popular. I think I'll just contemplate it some more but not actually sign on.
